Finding Purpose in the Battle

There’s something powerful that happens when you realize your life isn’t random. You were created for a cause. From the very beginning, God placed His people in the world with purpose. From Adam and Eve in the garden to the church in Austin today, His followers have always been called to live with direction and conviction.

Just like David stood on the battlefield and asked, “Is there not a cause?” (1 Samuel 17:29), we too must pause and ask that same question in our generation. There’s a Kingdom to advance, a city to reach, and an eternal purpose that demands our response.

Over the next four weeks at Dreamer’s Church, we’re unpacking this truth in our new series, BECAUSE There’s a Cause. We’re going to talk about how to deal with the things you’re wrestling with on the inside—your doubts, your disappointments, your fears—and how to let God use those battles to grow something beautiful within you.

You Were Created for a Cause

You weren’t created for comfort, convenience, or complacency. You were created for cause. And until you see that your life is tied to something bigger than yourself, you’ll settle for lesser battles and temporary victories.
But when you rise up with Kingdom anticipation—that confident awareness that God is moving right now—you discover that every struggle, every delay, and every dry season is doing something in you. There’s purpose in the battle.

The Vintage Wine Principle

In winemaking, not every year produces the same kind of wine. A vintage year is remembered because the conditions were so unique that the fruit developed extraordinary depth and flavor.

You might assume that perfect weather makes perfect wine—but vineyard farmers will tell you the opposite is true. The best vintages come from years of pressure, drought, and struggle. When the vine has to fight for water, its roots go deeper, drawing out hidden minerals and nutrients that would never be reached in an easy season.

The harvest may be smaller, but the flavor is richer. You’ll never get a vintage wine from unstressed vines.

The same is true in your walk with God. When you face pressure, loneliness, or frustration, God isn’t abandoning you—He’s deepening you. He’s developing character, endurance, and faith that can’t be shaken when the next storm hits.

Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12:1-2 reminds us:

“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

If we can learn to fix our eyes on Jesus in every season—when life is good and when it’s hard—we’ll start to see that our battles aren’t setbacks. They’re setups for breakthrough.
